The Dosage Manager
I helped to develop a device with three key parts:
The Control Unit: a reusable, rechargeable, connected device that is required. Design challenges: developing a robust and usable text free UI with low cost hardware.
The Cartridge: a pre-filled storage unit securing granules. Design challenges: preventing misuse and ensuring sustainable, secure disposal.
The Cup: easy, hygienic handling and pouring of dosed granules; designed for ergonomics and cleanliness.
Why Granules?
Switching to micro-granules enables adjustable, personalised dosing with fewer side effects.
Conventional medical packaging relies on storage; a digital dosing device improves security and tracks adherence.
My Role
I shaped the early mechanical design to accurately dose micro granules facing the challenges of scale, static, and moisture. After creating the dosing concept my role shifted to Usability Lead, developing mechanics, form factor, user interface.
Some key steps:
Arduino-powered mechanical testing and iteration
Form factor development through iterative prototyping
Technology selection through workshops and user studies
Patent creation (invention, documentation, and illustration)
Service design and sustainability review
Usability testing and documentation to meet requirements (ISO 62366-01)
